In 2013, the New England Amateur Radio Festival, Inc. (NEAR-FEST) established three $1,000 scholarships to benefit students studying electronic technology in Northern New England. Recipients must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be a resident of New England (MA, RI, CT, NH, VT, ME). Preference is given to students with an amateur radio license, although it is not required.
KVCC covers Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licensing topics in its Electronic Communication Systems course and encourages students to obtain their amateur radio license. Robert Karns is enrolled in KVCC’s Applied Electronics and Computer Technology Degree Program and has been selected as Maine’s 2013-2013 NEAR-FEST Scholarship Recipient.
“Many thanks to New England Amateur Radio Festival for this generous scholarship offering. This is a great gift for a hard working student. Robert Karns is a seasoned licensed amateur radio operator worthy of making New England Amateur Radio membership very proud.” ~ Bill Dolan, KVCC AECT Faculty
