Each year, we celebrate the beginning of a new semester with all new students.  Sponsored by the First Year Committee, this event offers students the opportunity to meet their academic advisor, program coordinator and other new students in their program.  It's a great time to begin your connection with our campus community, get the feel of the campus and alleviate some of the first day jitters!

We look forward to meeting each of you on the 23rd!

Community Day 2012 Event

Check in          Begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 8:45 a.m.
9:00 a.m.        Welcome form President Barbara Woodlee
9:15 a.m.        Guest:  Kelly McFarland
As an experienced stand up comedian, Kelly has an extensive and well-rounded resume including comedy clubs, theaters, colleges and several television appearances. Kelly is currently touring clubs and colleges across the Country and has just returned from entertaining our US troops overseas.  A past participant on the Biggest Loser, Kelly is also an experienced wellness speaker, coaching individuals about self acceptance. Sharing her life experiences in the unique way that only she can!

  • Is Community Day required?

    We strongly encourage new students to attend.  It is a one-time event.  We have no way to replicate what happens at Community Day.  We think it's so important to meet other students in your program, your faculty and begin to build that sense of community.  All research tells us that students who are engaged and connected tend to excel and finsih their programs!

  • What if it rains?

  • May I bring a guest with me?

    This day is for you!  Over 400 new students will be in attendance leaving us short of room for guests.  We ask that only the student attend.

  • May I bring my children?

    We ask that students not bring their children. This day is focused on YOU!

  • Do I need to register for this event?

    No!  All new students will be in attendance. 

    This event appears on your course schedule as "FYE 010".  This is there to serve as a reminder for you.  It is a one-time event, NOT a class.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me?

    Dress comfortably. Bring any documents you need to submit (immunizations, financial aid papers,etc.).  All offices will be open for you to finish up on any last details before the semester begins.

    Leave the rest to us...we will supply water, coffee, snack, lunch, and of course, the fun!

  • Can I pick up my books on Community Day?

    The College Store will be open.  Students may pick up their books after Community Day ends. 

    • If you are a financial aid recipient, you may purchase your books with your pending aid.  Your name must appear on this list maintained by the College Store. 
    • If you applied for financial aid recently, your award may not be complete yet. Students will need to pay for their books out of pocket.
    • Bring a printed copy of your semester schedule. The staff in the College Store will need this to find the right books for you!
